Welcome to the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band (RMMPB) webpage, a proud part of the SFU Pipe Band organization from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.
The RMM4 Pipe Band have now concluded their 2014 Scotland trip. Arriving August 7, 2014, the RMM4 Pipe band was based out of the University of Stirling and competed in two highland games immediately upon their arrival. The first games at North Berwick saw RMM4 place 3rd in the Novice Juvenile category after challenging against 12 competitor bands. At the Perth Highland Games the following day, RMM4 placed 1st in the grade 4 category in piping, drumming and the band category.
During the following week before the Worlds, RMM4 performed at Blair Castle, Highland Night in Pitlochry and lastly Piping Live in Glasgow before ending their trip on Saturday August 16th at the World Pipe Band Championships on Glasgow Green. As the only pipe band in the Novice Juvenile category from outside the British Isles, RMM4 qualified and then challenged for the World Championship title. Although the band placed 5th overall, the accomplishment of facing 27 other competing bands from the British Isles is a testiment to the bravery and confidence of these under 18 year old players.
Under the leadership of Pipe Major Jack Lee (SFUPB), P/S Dixon Scott and D/S Jake Mix, the band achieved much success this season and looks forward to challenging for another World Pipe Band championship bid again in the very near future.
Everyone at RMM is extremely proud of RMM4's accomplishment during the past two years of preparing for this adventure and we will be there supporting them again when the band resumes practicing in mid September 2014.
Because the RMM Pipe Band program is comprised of modivated youth between the ages 7-18 years of age, along with world renowned SFU Pipe Band instructors, RMM ensures the highest level of playing standards are maintained at every level of the organization taking Beginner Instrument students up to the adult levels of RMM and the SFU Pipe Band organization. And because our multi tiered pipe band program is maintained under a single roof, players at every level are challenged to prepare for competition on the world stage during their entire tenure with the RMM Pipe Band organization.
Well done RMM4 players, instructors and your parent/sibbling support network!
