Welcome to the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band (RMMPB) webpage, a proud part of the SFU Pipe Band organization located at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.
ALL RMM Pipe Bands have now completed their 2014 competition season and are proud to have been named aggregate winners by the British Columbia Pipers' Association in the Grade 5 and Grade 2 pipe band categories. Congratulations to ALL our competitor bands for such a challenging season.
UPDATE: RMM has regraded its Grade 4 pipe band for the 2015 competition season and will resume competing at the Grade 3 Pipe Band level starting with the BCPA Annual Gathering (www.bcpipers.org) in April 2015. RMM will continue competing in Grade's 2 and 5 throughout the 2015 competition season and we are currently evaluating whether sufficient players are available to continue competing in the Grade 4 category as well. The promotion of our 2014 Grade 4 players into the renewed Grade 3 Pipe Band allows for our capable players to compete against more experienced bands within the BC Pipers Association however was a slight drain on available players at the Grade 4 pipe band level. RMM's decision to continue with their Grade 4 Pipe Band in 2015 is pending at the moment however will be determined in the near future.
Because the RMM Pipe Band program is comprised of modivated youth between the ages 6-18 years of age, along with our world renowned SFU Pipe Band instructors, RMM ensures the highest quality of playing standards are maintained at every level of the organization throughout our educational and competition year. Our program takes students from the Introduction to Scottish Music and Beginner Instrument programs up through the adult ranks into the RMM2 and SFU Pipe Bands. With our multi tiered pipe band program approach, players remain under a single organizational umbrella offering them an opportunity to promote within the various grades in our bands and be continuously challenged to be prepared for competition on the world stage throughout their entire tenure in the organization.
Instructors such as P/M Alan Bevan (SFUPB), P/M Terry Lee (SFUPB-Retired), P/S Jack Lee (SFUPB) D/S Reid Maxwell (SFUPB) and others, are waiting to instruct youth from around the globe who are interested in becoming members of the SFU/RMM Pipe Band organization at every level.
