Welcome to the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band (RMMPB) webpage, a proud part of the SFU Pipe Band organization located at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.
RMM Pipe Bands have concluded their 2015 competition season and are taking a well deserved summer break starting Monday July 27th through mid September 21, 2015. Our Grade 2, 3 5 and Novice Pipe Bands all enjoyed much success this season participating in highland games across British Columbia, Alberta and Washington State. Our Beginner bagpipes and drumming program resumes September 22,2015 at the Burnaby Campus of Simon Fraser University as well as at Surrey SFU campus (dependant on enrollment). Email the band Secretary/Registrar for further information about all our programs including our Introduction to Scottish Music, Beginner Chanter, Side, Tenor, Bass and Pipe Band lessons starting September 22, 2015.
RMM PIPE BAND ACADEMY/PROGRAM INFORMATION (Classes resume September 22, 2015)
The RMM Pipe Band program is comprised of modivated youth, teens and adults between the ages 6-65 and receives weekly instrument instruction from members of the World Champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. Under the SFU Pipe Band organizational umbrella, players at all levels are exposed to the highest levels of instruction in both bagpipes and drums with playing standards maintained at a World Class level throughout the entire program. New this year is a BEGINNER BAGPIPE CHANTER AND SIDE DRUMMING CLASS AT THE SURREY CAMPUS OF SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY (subject to enrollment) with the remainder of our classes all offered at the BURNABY CAMPUS OF SFU.
Our program takes students from Introduction to Scottish Music (6-8 yrs) and Beginner Instruments (8-14 yrs) up into the adult ranks of our Grade 2 and the SFU Pipe Bands. With a multi-tiered pipe band approach, players remain under a single organizational umbrella and simply change grades rather than uniform. Few organizations in the world offer such an opportunity and this type of structure ensures consistent instruction at all levels of playing with emphasis on proper playing technique, execution, hard work & discipline while at the same time maintaining an atmosphere of fun while learning from World Champion Instructors and traveling across the Pacific Northwest and around the globe.
RMM classes are all held Tuesday afternoons (4:30pm-5:30pm in Surrey) and Tuesday evenings (7pm -9pm in Burnaby) under the direction of SFU Pipe Band players P/M Alan Bevan, P/M Terry Lee (SFUPB-P/M Retired), SFU P/S Jack Lee, D/S Reid Maxwell and numerous other world class SFU players and guest instructors. Classes are based on enrollment however are maintained at the lowest possible student to teacher ratio possible. Classes begin in September 22, 2015 and finish in June 2016 (July for bands).
